Yuma Lettuce Days is GROWING!
Yuma Lettuce Days is excited to be partnering with the Southwest Ag Summit to offer a complete agricultural experience by connecting the agricultural industry with the community. This event will be a perfect opportunity to celebrate Yuma's agricultural industry and to learn more about what "ag" means to our community! We are excited to announce a new epicurean component that will incorporate Yuma produce, gourmet chefs and restaurants, and cooking demonstrations! With this GROWTH, it is only fitting that we are expanding to two venues...the Quartermaster Depot and Main St. These "appetizing" venues will be connected by the Tractor Trail.
The Delicious Depot (Culinary Festival)
Local chefs, restaurants, grocery stores, etc... will provide an array of tantalizing tastes all highlighting Arizona's very own produce! A surprise celebrity chef, along with several other talented and nationally recognized regional chefs, including chefs from several highly acclaimed San Diego restaurants, will be giving cooking demonstrations throughout the weekend. Local non-profits will compete in the Lettuce Days Leafy Challenge...with the winner receiving a donation for their charity! All of these delicious concoctions will be included in the Yuma Recipe Box Cookbook, as well as many other recipes that include Arizona produce! In addition to the numerous recipes that will be shared, we will be celebrating Arizona's upcoming Centennial by unveiling an Arizona Centennial Recipe that will include at least one item grown in each county in the state of Arizona.
Scattered throughout the Delicious Depot will be educational displays with hands-on activities showcasing our agricultural industry. These exhibits will introduce a variety of topics, including horticulture, livestock, farming, nutrition and much more! We will also have guest speakers from around the country educating, entertaining and highlighting the agricultural experience. Our goal is to educate, excite and inspire the Yuma community to celebrate our worldwide agricultural status! We want to "plant the seed" that our agricultural industry is exciting, innovative and world known!
The Scrumptious Salad Bar and the Farmer's Market will also be located in the Delicious Depot. Don't miss the opportunity to load up your plate with regional produce!
Ag Avenue on Main (100 and 200 block of Main St.):
The streets will be bustling with fun, whimsical vendors sure to excite a broad range of interests! Our children's agricultural inspired craft area will keep little hands busy! Located in the 100 block, the entertainment stage will offer live performances throughout the weekend.
Don't miss the "Yuma Sun brings Worldwide Fun" display where you can pinpoint and proudly display where you've traveled from to reach Yuma, AZ. You can only imagine what this display will look like at the end of the festival...a true melting pot exhibit right on our very own Main St.
The Yuma Art Center will also be participating in the festivities, as well. An agricultural inspired art show will adorn the Art Center. Our hope is that the artists will be on hand throughout the festival to share the inspirations behind their art pieces.
Restaurants around town will offer a "Yuma's Very Own" Lettuce Days special on their menu. These recipes will include only items grown in Yuma. All of these specials will be listed in The Sun prior to the event so people can preplan and be sure not to miss any of the weekend festivities!
The Tractor Trail
Connecting the Delicious Depot and Ag Avenue will be the Tractor Trail. Tractors, farm equipment, and agricultural tools will line the street and connect these two venues.
